Foo Fighters, Bon Jovi Headlining 2012 Bamboozle Festival

Foo Fighters, Bon Jovi and Blink-182 (yes, you’ve read that right), have all been confirmed to headline the rock version of The Bamboozle Festival.

For those less familiar, Bamboozle is New Jersey’s annual music festival, around since 2003, and slated to happen on May 18-20, 2012, this time, back to its original home in Asbury Park, N.J.

Getting Bon Jovi to headline the festival is an impressive accomplishment, particularly as the band has recently wrapped their enormously successful 2011 tour, which grossed $193 million, second only to U2′s 360 tour which grossed a whopping $736 million.

Foo Fighters have also had an amazing comeback this year, having made numerous appearances at festivals around the world in support of their latest full-length album, ‘Wasting Light’, which earned the band a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year.

If you’re in New Jersey and environs and plan to attend, tickets for the Bamboozle Festival go on sale on Saturday, December 17.

The Black Keys Explain Their Decision Not To Allow Streaming of ‘El Camino’

The Black Keys have just dropped their new record, ‘El Camino’, last week and are currently in the middle of a huge promotional tour of the album.

In the weeks leading to the official release date, the band streamed a few singles off the album, going viral with the video of their single “Lonely Boy”.

So amidst the avalanche of publicity pre and post-album release, it is not surprising then that band has suddenly stirred up some “controversy” recently, when they declared that they would not allow streaming of ‘El Camino’ on sites like Spotify and MOG.

In response to all the hoopla, the band clarified their position when asked about it during an interview with VH1, in which drummer Patrick Carney explained:

“[Streaming services] are becoming more popular, but it still isn’t at a point where you’re able to replace royalties from record sales with the royalties from streams…For a band that makes a living selling music, it’s not at a point where it’s feasible for us.”

Carney added that he endorses services like Pandora, where fans are able to sample and discover new music on a song-by-song basis, but commented that the Spotifys of the world are “set up to be a little more fair for the labels than for the artists.”

So there you have it! What do you think? Should bands allow streaming of their new releases?

Amy Winehouse Tops UK Charts-Highest Weekly Sales of 2011

Billboard is reporting that the late Amy Winehouse posthumously achieved the biggest weekly sales of her U.K. chart career last week, with her latest album, ‘Lioness: Hidden Treasures’ (Universal Island).

Winehouse debuted on the album chart at No. 1 yesterday (Dec. 11) with 194,000 units. After two weeks in the runner-up spot on the singles survey, Olly Murs moved to the top with “Dance With Me Tonight” (Epic/Sony Music Entertainment).

This achievement is a true testament to the talented singer’s legacy, following her tragic death in July, and a sentiment echoed by her mother Janis, who released the following statement:

“It’s such amazing news that Amy’s album has gone to No. 1, and just goes to show what she still means to people.”

A portion of sales per album (£1) will go toward the Amy Winehouse Foundation, launched by her family on what would have been her 28th birthday, devoted to providing help and support to youths who are ill, disabled or suffering from addiction.

Here’s the audio for one of our favorite tracks off that album, the beautiful “Like Smoke”, featuring Nas:

Lana Del Rey to Headline MTV Brand New for 2012 in London

MTV UK has announced its final shortlist of nominations for the most promising new acts of 2012.

One of our favorites break-out artists, singer/songwriter Lana Del Rey, has made it to the shortlist of ten nominees, and she will be sharing the stage with The Maccabees and Charli XCX on January 24.

For those less familiar, in the last four years MTV Brand New has identified a wide range of up-and-coming artists- a list that included the likes of Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber & Ke$ha, Tinie Tempah, Wretch 32 and Jessie J- as stars to watch. Also for the first time, this year’s list will also include the UK’s best unsigned act to fill the tenth nominee spot.

Other acts that made it to this year’s final shortlist, announced at KOKO on December 1, include Angel, Clement Marfo And The Frontline, Conor Maynard, King Charles, Lianne La Havas and Michael Kiwanuka.
Tickets go on sale on December 12 at 11am and you can get more details here.

Here’s The Maccabees with their latest single, “Pelican”, to be released January 1, 2012.

Radiohead is announcing that they will release two new tracks- “The Daily  Mail” and “Staircase”– as singles on December 19. Both tracks were  part of their ‘From the Basement’ series, recorded earlier this year.

The new singles will coincide with the release of the band’s upcoming new effort, a series of remixed singles titled The King of Limbs: Live From the Basement’, available digitally on December 19.  A DVD/Blu-Ray version will be available on January 23 in the UK and January 31 in the United States, to be distributed by independent record stores.

Video: Bon Iver Performs with the National

Last night, Bon Iver made a special appearance with the National on CBC Radio’s “Q” show in Toronto.

The group performed two new songs and were joined again by Justin Vernon on “Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks”, a track off their BNM’d 2010 album ‘High Violet’.

Vernon, the falsetto voice behind Bon Iver‘s unique sound, looking rather er, worse for wear, sat down for an interview with the show’s host.

One of the juicy tidbits to come out of that interview included Vernon’s clarification regarding his much maligned comments about Bon Iver’s Grammy nominations. Evidently Vernon had made those comments to a reporter during an interview long before the Grammy nominations were made, yet the reporter chose to hold printing material until after the announcements.

He also went into more detail about his controversial liquor endorsement (which he says he did it because his dad is a fan of whiskey).

Here’s the performance:
