Amy Winehouse Tops UK Charts-Highest Weekly Sales of 2011

Billboard is reporting that the late Amy Winehouse posthumously achieved the biggest weekly sales of her U.K. chart career last week, with her latest album, ‘Lioness: Hidden Treasures’ (Universal Island).

Winehouse debuted on the album chart at No. 1 yesterday (Dec. 11) with 194,000 units. After two weeks in the runner-up spot on the singles survey, Olly Murs moved to the top with “Dance With Me Tonight” (Epic/Sony Music Entertainment).

This achievement is a true testament to the talented singer’s legacy, following her tragic death in July, and a sentiment echoed by her mother Janis, who released the following statement:

“It’s such amazing news that Amy’s album has gone to No. 1, and just goes to show what she still means to people.”

A portion of sales per album (£1) will go toward the Amy Winehouse Foundation, launched by her family on what would have been her 28th birthday, devoted to providing help and support to youths who are ill, disabled or suffering from addiction.

Here’s the audio for one of our favorite tracks off that album, the beautiful “Like Smoke”, featuring Nas:
